Under 13 – Match Report

Our U13s were on the wrong side of a 4–2 scoreline away to Villa, in what proved to be a tough and competitive encounter. Having edged the same opposition 3–2 just a few weeks ago, the lads knew they were in for a serious test — and that’s exactly how it played out.

We endured a difficult start, falling two goals behind early on with Villa scoring twice in almost identical fashion, which was a source of frustration. However, the response was excellent. Jake Murphy continued his fine goal-scoring form, finishing confidently to pull one back and bring us right back into the contest.

Just as momentum was building, a defensive mix-up allowed Villa to restore their two-goal cushion, leaving us with work to do again. The second half saw a much brighter and more determined performance, and the lads were unlucky not to reduce the deficit immediately, only to be denied by a strong save from the Villa keeper.

The breakthrough did come shortly after, with Jake Murphy grabbing his second of the game with another well-taken finish to make it 3–2 and set up a tense period. We pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Villa struck again with 15 minutes remaining to regain control at 4–2.

To their credit, the lads kept battling and created further chances that on another day might have found the net, but it just wasn’t to be. Despite the disappointment, there were plenty of positives in the performance and attitude.

With the league proving extremely competitive and teams taking points off each other, there is still everything to play for. The focus now shifts to the next game.

Thanks as always to the coaches and players for their efforts, and to the parents for their continued support.
