Under 13 – Waterford Schoolboy League
Park Rangers 1-1 Waterford Crystal
On a beautiful sunny day, our lads made the trip to face Park Rangers, with a few absentees forcing a reshuffle in formation. Despite the changes, the team settled quickly and began to find their rhythm, creating some early chances. The pitch conditions proved tricky, with unpredictable bounces denying a couple of promising opportunities just as they looked destined for the net.
The breakthrough eventually came through a moment of real quality. Asanda picked up the ball in midfield and went on a trademark run, beating four players before calmly sliding the ball past the keeper—an outstanding individual goal that gave us a deserved 1–0 lead going into the break.
The second half started much the same, with Crystal on the front foot and looking dangerous, particularly down the wings. Chances came and went, and in truth, we probably should have doubled our lead. Benjamin was unlucky not to score after a brilliant run, while another golden opportunity from a corner somehow ended up over the bar from just a few yards out.
As so often happens in football, those missed chances proved costly. Park Rangers capitalised with a well-worked move, a perfectly timed through ball releasing their attacker, who made no mistake to level the game at 1–1.
We pushed hard for a winner in the closing stages, but it wasn’t to be, and the points were shared at the final whistle.
Overall, a strong performance from the entire squad. The defence stood firm when called upon and worked well alongside Ben in goal. The midfield showed great energy and creativity, linking play and setting up numerous attacks.
With a few games still to play this season, there’s plenty to aim for—let’s keep pushing. Thanks as always to the players, coaches, and parents for their continued support.
