Under 13 – Match Report

We faced Ferrybank for the second time in just five days — but this time on home turf, and what a difference those few days made.

Crystal started with the breeze at their backs and immediately went on the front foot. From the first whistle, it was all-out attack as the lads carved out chance after chance. James, Sean, Faawz, and Asanda all went close, only to be denied by some inspired goalkeeping from the Ferrybank shot-stopper. Robbie was electric down the flank, causing constant problems and delivering dangerous crosses that somehow evaded the finishing touch.

The breakthrough finally came after 25 mins — and fittingly, it was from a set piece. Pearce whipped in a superb corner that found Asanda lurking at the back post, and he made no mistake, nodding home to settle the nerves and put Crystal 1–0 up.

The second half, however, told a different story. Ferrybank regrouped and began to push forward with real intent. Despite solid defending from Conor, Michelle, Pearce, and Ben between the sticks, the visitors finally broke through on a counterattack to level the game at 1–1

The final fifteen minutes were not for the faint-hearted. Both sides threw everything forward in search of a winner. It looked as if the game was destined for a draw when James went on a amazing run beat 4/5 players , beat the keeper and his shot hit the crossbar and rebounded to safety , it would have been a goal that would have lived long in the memory. The Crystal players continued to work tirelessly all over the pitch while and their attacking play kept the pressure on. Just when it looked like the game was heading for a draw, fate had one last twist.

In stoppage time, Finn — who had already played earlier with the U11s in Ballinroad — danced into the box with his trademark footwork and was brought down. The referee didn’t hesitate — penalty! With the regular taker off the pitch, the tension was sky-high. Up stepped Asanda, full of confidence, and he coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2–1.

Ferrybank had one final push, but the Crystal defence stood firm. The final whistle brought relief, pride, and a well-deserved three points.

Credit to Ferrybank, who battled all the way and were kept in the game by an outstanding performance from their keeper. Massive well done to every Crystal player for their fight and composure — and a special mention to Finn Kehoe, who showed incredible commitment playing in two matches on the same day and still made a huge impact.

Thanks as always to the coaches, the players, and the ever-supportive parents on the sidelines. 💙⚽
