Under 13 – Match Report

Our U13s made the trip west to Abbeyside this afternoon looking to put last week’s frustrating 1-1 draw firmly behind them — and from the very first whistle they showed exactly what they were about.

Despite the game kicking off 30 minutes later than scheduled, the lads were focused and sharp from the outset. We flew out of the blocks and took the lead almost immediately when James Reddin found the back of the net after some excellent attacking play. Just four minutes later James struck again to make it 2-0, rewarding a dominant opening spell where we looked dangerous every time they went forward.

The scoreline at half time could easily have been far greater. The lads created chance after chance with some superb football throughout the pitch, stretching the Abbeyside defence continuously. Only a combination of poor finishing and an inspired performance from the Abbeyside goalkeeper kept the home side in the game. Their keeper pulled off numerous excellent saves throughout the first half and was undoubtedly the reason the score remained at just 2-0 at the break.

The second half continued in much the same fashion with us piling forward at every opportunity. The quality of the finishing improved and the goals began to flow. James Reddin completed an excellent hat-trick with another well-taken finish to cap a superb individual performance. Asanda also got on the scoresheet after another excellent attacking move, while Fawwaz deservedly grabbed a goal following a tireless display full of energy and creativity. Finn then added two goals of his own to round off an excellent afternoon and secure the three points in style.

It was a really strong all-round performance from the entire squad and, in truth, we could easily have scored even more. Tom was unlucky not to come away with a hat-trick himself after getting into some excellent positions, while Jake worked tirelessly throughout and was unfortunate not to get the goal his performance deserved. Fawwaz and Jake caused problems all game with their movement and work rate, creating numerous opportunities for the team.

At the other end, the boys at the back were solid once again, building on last week’s defensive display and giving very little away throughout the match. The team looked organised, disciplined and comfortable in possession from start to finish.

A big thanks to everyone who travelled and helped get the boys to Abbeyside this afternoon — especially those who provided lifts, it’s greatly appreciated.

Another excellent performance and a fully deserved three points. Well done boys 👏🏻

We Go Again 👏🏻
