Under 16 – Waterford Schoolboy League
Waterford Crystal 1–0 Hibernian
Our U16s recorded a crucial victory tonight to move top of the table, edging out Hibs at Crystal Park in a tight and hard-fought contest.
Coming into the game, the lads knew they were in for a tough challenge, especially after suffering a last-minute defeat to the same opposition in their previous meeting. With three key players unavailable, the task was made even more demanding, but the squad showed great character and resilience throughout.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute through Aaron O’Toole, who showed excellent determination and strength to race onto a ball over the top, hold off the defender, and calmly slot his finish into the left-hand corner.
We pushed hard to extend our lead in the second half, with Alan La Forge going close, only to be denied by a strong save from the Hibs goalkeeper. Evan Keenan also had an opportunity after some excellent work down the left by Darragh Hearne, but his effort drifted just over the bar.
Hibs responded with sustained pressure in the final 15 minutes, throwing everything forward in search of an equaliser. However, the lads stood firm, with David Oni producing a superb save at a crucial moment to preserve the lead and secure all three points.
A disciplined and determined performance from the all lads, showing their ability to grind out results when it matters most.
