Under 14 – Waterford Schoolboy League
Waterford Crystal 1-5 Ferrybank
There are days when the scoreline doesn’t tell the full story—and this was certainly one of them. Our U14s produced a battling, committed performance with just 12 players available, showing tremendous heart and determination from start to finish.
Wel began the game on the front foot, taking the early initiative and playing most of the opening exchanges in the Ferrybank half. Unfortunately, despite some promising build-up play, the final ball just wouldn’t fall our way. Against the run of play, Ferrybank were awarded a penalty which they converted to take the lead.
The response from the lads was excellent, continuing to push forward and create opportunities, but luck wasn’t on our side. The second goal proved a tough blow, coming immediately after we had nearly equalised from a corner—Ferrybank breaking and capitalising at the other end to make it 2-0 going into the break.
Despite the setback, there was no drop in effort or belief. The second half saw more attacking intent, with great chances falling to Andrew, Josh, and Fawwaz. The commitment of the group was summed up by both Andrew and Michele, who carried knocks but battled through the pain barrier for the team.
Fawwaz deservedly got us on the scoresheet with a well-taken goal, a reward for the team’s persistence and hard work throughout. Ferrybank were clinical when their chances came, but our lads never stopped working, never stopped competing, and showed fantastic character right to the final whistle.
A huge credit to every player—despite the result, they did themselves and the club proud with their effort, attitude, and resilience.
