Waterford Crystal 3–2 Ferrybank
It was another thrilling afternoon at Crystal Park as our Under 16s continued their unbeaten run — but not without a few heart-stopping moments along the way!
Crystal flew out of the blocks, setting the tempo early. After just six minutes, Leo Lanigan opened the scoring with a calm, composed finish to give the ladsl the perfect start. The lads were well on top, dominating possession and carving out chances, and they were inches away from doubling their lead when Mo rattled the post with the keeper rooted to the spot.
The pressure finally told on the half-hour mark. From a corner, the ball ricocheted around the box before falling to Mark Williams, who reacted quickest to fire home from close range and make it 2–0 to Crystal.
After the restart, Crystal looked to put the game beyond reach — and they did just that when Leo Lanigan unleashed a thunderbolt from outside the box that rocketed into the net. Three-nil up and it looked like the points were safely in the bag.
But Ferrybank weren’t done yet. A slice of fortune saw them pull one back midway through the second half, and suddenly the momentum began to shift. Then, with ten minutes to go, a quickly taken corner caught the lads napping, and Ferrybank bundled the ball home to make it 3–2, setting up a tense finale — or as they say, squeaky bum time!
Despite the late pressure, the lads showed grit and maturity to see the game out and claim another vital three points. The unbeaten run continues, and this side just keeps finding ways to win.
